Ganderbal, Mar 04 (KNO): Inhabitants of several villages of Lower Kangan area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have expressed resentment against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide adequate electricity to them, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
The residents speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said they are not getting the electricity as per the schedule and are facing tremendous hardships, especially during Sehri and Iftar times.
The locals from Prang, Kangan, Akhal Anderwan Haripora, Wussan, Chattergul, Kachnabal, Najwan, Wayil, Nunner and main town Ganderbal said they are getting electricity for merely two to four hours a day.
Mushtaq Ahmad from main town Ganderbal said despite paying "hefty" electricity bills, the power department has failed to ensure adequate electricity for them. He said people are being pushed to the wall by being forced to reel under darkness.
Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Kangan, said that despite consistently paying his electricity bills on time, the supply remains unreliable. "We barely receive electricity for 10 minutes to an hour within 24 hours. This is causing immense hardship, particularly during Ramadan," he said.
The locals have requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal and Managing Director (MD) of KPDCL to address the ongoing issue of electricity shortages and ensure adequate electricity supply in this holy month—(KNO)
